Game of the Month of December: Grandia 2

The game that has me most captivated right now is none other than the original Grandia. Although I do make numerous references to the game I had never really played it through the whole way. In doing so I have recaptured some of the magic of what makes an RPG a fantastic game. The game just has a certain charm about it that, much like Justin's thirst for adventure, cannot be repressed. Grandia 2 is Grandia, only Grandier (who wrote that pun?). The story centers around Ryudo, a wandering sword-for-hire who thinks he;s making easy money by escorting a young priestess to a religious ceremony. Soon, as in many RPG's they become the center of an epic struggle. This is one of the few times in an RPG when the story isn't the star but the gameplay is. The batlle system is much the same as the original Grandia, the main difference is that distance plays a much more important part. The battles are arguably the best part of the game, rivaling the stunning visuals. We have come a long way since the Saturn in 1997. Needless to say to the knowledgable gaming fan, this is a Grandia experience (he did it again!) and it is not to be missed.

GAMECUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was at Nintendorks the day that I thought the pre-Spaceworld event was gonna happen. There was a link there that read, "This is all that you need to see." And kablam, a picture of the Metroid demo. I had never been so happy in my life. Well, enough fanboy chatter. This is Nintendo's next-gen system that was unveiled at the pre-Spaceworld event. It's small, lightweight, and it has a handle. It has it's own little mini-DVD thing instead of the standard DVD. The controller is really funky looking, but strangely, I have the feeling that it will become my third hand. You can connect up to for GBA's to the system. And well, let me tell you, if that Zelda demo is anything to go by, I think my pants will be wet constantly. For more go to IGNGamecube.

DC officially dropped to $149.99

I really, truly believe, now more than ever, that chosing a PS2 over a DC this Christmas would be a really stupid move.

Recently Released Games.

Wow. I guess this is the storm before... the storm. August is so full of quality that I had a real tough time deciding what to pick as game of the month. August is all about Chrono Cross. Everyone has been waiting for this one for a long time and Square comes through delivering a solid masterpiece. To tell you the truth though, the only other game on PSX that should be mentioned is Valkyrie Profile. That game kicks hardcore ass. The big name titles for DC are numerous. Seaman, Powerstone 2, WWF Royal Rumble, Ecco, Deep Fighter, Sydney 2K. Lots of quality for the DC. The N64 is still holding it's ground trying to survive until October. Mario Tennis is the biggest title, Turok 3 is the next. NFL Quarterback Club 2001 and Carmageddon round out the N64 list but I ould avoid these games. Let me just say that Turok 3 is a mighty fine piece of gaming. Ooooooh, online DC play Sept. 7... the plot thickens

PS2 Release Date And Price Set!

The day before the actual E3 show started Sony announced the date and suggested retail price for the PS2. The date will be October 26th, the price, $299. They also announced the price of games, $49 and the price of controllers and multitaps, $34 each.

PS2 Hard Drive Unveiled!

It's true, it's true, the hard drive actually exists. While much wasn't said about the actual capabilities of the device it was shown actually connected to the system. It's about 1/3 the size of the system and it looks really snazzy in the vertical position. It even has a broadband socket. The capacity is unknown yet but rumors state it to be 10Gb. My only problem is the spaghetti of wires formed in the back after the connection.

Games I am playing right now:

1. Grandia(PSX)
I had been missing out on this classic for so long. For an RPG, it's damn fun. A technological marvel on the Saturn in '96, a worthy port for PSX.

. 2. Xenogears(PSX)
You know, sometimes some games slip in under the radar and are so good that they remind you why you play games in the first place. Although it is a hard find nowadays, any RPG fan should really, really play this game

3. NFL2K1
I'll never get tired of this game. Best football game on the market. The only bad thing about this game is the pansies who disconnect when they start losing online.

4. Perfect Dark(N64)
May's Game of the Month is still burning up my time. I beat it, but the multiplayer still has it's hooks buried deep inside of me. This game will never gather dust.

5. Shenmue(DC)
Best game ever? Hell yes!
